New-build energy assessment
Book New-build energy assessmentA New-Build Energy Assessment, based on Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) calculations, is a legal requirement under Building Regulations for all new dwellings. It determines the energy performance and carbon emissions, leading to the Predicted and On-Construction EPC.
When do you need a New-build energy assessment?
Required for all new build dwellings, conversions, and extensions in the UK. The Predicted Energy Assessment (PEA) is needed before construction begins, and the final On-Construction EPC is issued upon completion.
What happens on the day
This assessment is primarily office-based. You will submit architectural plans, specifications, and details of heating/ventilation systems. The assessor will then perform calculations and issue the relevant certificates.
How to prepare
- Provide full architectural plans (floor plans, elevations, sections).
- Submit specifications for insulation, windows, doors, and U-values.
- Detail heating, hot water, and ventilation systems planned.
- Provide details of any renewable energy technologies being installed.
How to improve your result
- Design with high levels of insulation and efficient glazing.
- Incorporate highly efficient heating and hot water systems.
- Consider renewable energy sources like solar panels or heat pumps.
- Ensure excellent airtightness to minimise heat loss.
Why it is useful day to day
A well-designed and certified new build offers lower energy bills, a reduced carbon footprint, and a more comfortable living environment for occupants, enhancing long-term property value.
Why we ask these questions
We ask for floor plans, elevations, sections, and details on construction materials, heating, and ventilation systems to perform accurate SAP calculations and generate the necessary energy performance certificates.
